mr taylor it is especially lovely to make your acquantaince...

especially since you think my feet are a whole size smaller than in reality they are.  i love that quality in a man.  i do not wish to slight anyone or make anyone feel bad so let me also mention that mr ugg also has that opinion about my feet and it was also lovley and i must say in his defense even more so to make his acquantaince.  all this talk of shoes is leading to the confession of the true shoeaholic that i am that i was in no way able to stick to my resolution to add no more shoes to my shoe closet. i failed at that back in  march or was it february even!  i have added a pair of black ugg boots, a pair of olive emu boots, a pair of ninewest knock off corkease style platforms and a  pair of converse tennis shoes...or would they be basketball shoes...whatever i play neither i just walk around town in them.

ah my intentions were good and still i have not done nearly the amount of accumulating that i ordinarily would have so i feel as though it has paid off to make the resolution because though it did not halt all shoe buying activity it did slow it down...and slow it down considerably.  yay for me and i owe the guy a pair of shoes but he seems to think that the bet was that i owe him one for one and that is not the case sir so we have a stand off and it may have to go to court in order for a decision to be made.  before i go back to any discussion of mr taylor let me first say that i am having a love affair with mr ugg and his competion mr emu.  i wear nothing on my feet  but those two until the temps climb into the 80's  then i move into mr teva territory and flop around in the most comfy flip flops known to man...but that is just my humble opinion. while shopping for something or other the other day i got the bright idea to give mr taylor another shot. the size 7 hi tops i bought a number of years ago made their way into the youngladygrandaughter's closet because they just didn't suit me for a number of various assorted reasons so i thought i 'd try the lo tops and try them in a size smaller and that seems to have done the trick.  these babies are comfy and they fit me and they are cooler temp wise than leather and less intrusive on my feet which in reality and truth be told would prefer to be bare. this is my goal in life. to wear shoes that make me feel like i am not wearing any at all.  besides these come in all kinds of cool. seriously i have never seen so many designs and colors and just so you know i am not exactly a pink type of a gal and i am not so girly as these would indicate but i bought these rasberry...not pink ones on the clearance rack and there is something to be said for the clearance rack!!!  that's what i always say and later...love   g 

these green gloves make me wish....

i was a smoker again.  i dare say that's not exactly the daily wisdom you were hoping for so let me start over and say that  if i was a smoker i'd love to have a pair of these green gloves...or if i was a knitter i'd love to have a pair of these.  oh wait a minute i am a knitter and it just so happens i have...well no i don't have a pair of these i have only one. same number i've had for quite some time. one green glove.  this is my knit at work project and obviously i don't do much knitting at work.  it is march already. i resolved a lot of things in january about my behavior for the year and it is march so let me take stock of what i have already become a miserable failure at in only three short months.

i resolved not to buy any yarn and knit from my stash and although i  spent days looking for new yarn to buy for a couple of new sweaters that i had my eye on i came to my senses and  i did not in fact buy the yarn  and if i remember correctly i  believe that i have not purchased any yarn this year...yet...so far so good.  i resolved i would not buy any more shoes this year and was doing splendidly until i bought that pair of boots from  the clearance rack a few weeks back.  i am a total sucker for the clearance rack.  the fact that they were only $20.00 for a pair of tall tan boots with a low wedge heel and that they look so awesome with skinny jeans and are so comfortable that it makes me smile doesn't  change the fact that i bought a pair of shoes after i resolved not to and i am a failure at that  too and to boot the guy reminds me regularly that i owe him a new pair of shoes...he needs new tennis shoes so i could say it was a public service because he will not be walking around in tennis shoes with the soles flapping about anymore while refusing to buy his own...and after all why should he when he has me.

  

i resolved to take a morning break and a lunch break everyday at work and knit or eat.  i have not accomplished this goal. i resolved this in an effort to keep  sane and keep me from crying at my desk in the late afternoon from sheer frustration and exhaustion and today once again i did not knit, i did not take a lunch break i worked until i cried and i resolved to quit my job as an intake worker.  there you have it. failed  failed and set myself up to fail again when i do not  quit my job in the intake deptartment...i never siad i would quit my job just where i do it so there is hope that i won't fail at this most recent resolution.   soooo anyway i meant to finish this glove this week but i did not.  hey no body is perfect least of all me. later...love

so you don't think it's all roses around here...

i'm here to report that everything's coming out wonky. all wonky.  first of all my back hurts and my neck is killing me. again i don't know what i did but i think falling up the stairs may have had something to do with it.  second i shopped most of the day yesterday and came up with nada...zip...zilch in the way of snow boots except the really cute mukluks that were covered in rabbit fur...ewwwww...somebody else can have those.  i'll wear my colombia's with the blow out until next season and hope for better luck on the sale rack next winter.  i searched high and low for some...dare i say this on a knitting blog...sweaters but found few worth giving a second look.  the score over the past week was a pair of skinny black jeans, a black scoop neck tee for summer, and a free people blue cotton belted jacket that is so glam...all from gabriels for about 35 dollars total...nice score.  a few of the buttons were missing from the jacket but i was elated to have found a spare in the pocket thanks to some kind soul who put it there when it fell off and an extra button sewn to the tab so yipee!  i also scored a cute long rayon knit cardi in multi shades of red white and black...or is it taupe...on the clearance rack in the juniors dept at macys for ten bucks and and black wool and rayon blend tunic sweater in the petites dept also at macy's for 35 bucks.  spending thirty five bucks on one item goes against my grain these days but it was the always wearable black and it was the tunic i was searching high and low for and it looks great with jeans...it may be too short to wear as a dress but i don't wear dresses these days anymore anyway so there you have it.  the reason for the last minute shopping spree was this...today is the kick off for no shopping february.  if you were around last year you may remember dr ruth and i share a pledge not to shop for one whole month and it has come around again.  last year was a great success and this year in combination with my ban on shoe shopping for the year this should leave all sorts of room available in my closet and in my yarn stash!  speaking of yarn  i was knitting away on my cables last night and watching a movie and it seems i forgot to cable back or was it that i forgot to cable front in any case i have some ripping out to do on my cardi...my cables are a bit wonky and one sided and as you can see are more like swirls than cables.

also in the wonky deptartment is my green sleeve gloves which btw would look cute with my new blue jacket but i switched greens and am not convinced i like it yet.  i'm going to go the distance and reserve judgement when i come to the end.  if i hate it i can choose to just not make a second.  knitting is not going well.  cooking on the other hand is going a bit better than the knitting is. 

today is the superbowl and if you live in pittsburgh you know just what this means.  it means that if you plan to go grocery shopping you better pack a lunch because you'll be in a long line for quite some time and you'll have to push your cart full of groceries a long way through many inches of slush to get to your car only to find out that people have been using the empty space next to you for a cart return and you have to move about fifty carts before you can get your truck out of it's parking space.  that explains my neck and back pain huh?  anyway on the menu for today are wings with blue cheese...my fav...and i'm damn lucky to have gotten a bag of frozen wings because the family behind me in line with three carts had about thirty bags of wings so no one else got any to be sure!  people in pittsburgh are partying today it's like a state holiday. a what's for dinner post will follow because we also have ham but for today...we have some celebrating to do...go steelers!  see you on the other side of the goal post.  later...love   g

i have to come to a decision soon...

or i will run completely out of the lovely green yarn i am using for the striped hand warmers and i will run out of it before i make the second one of the pair!  i knew the possibility existed that i wouldn't have enough and i will most likely not.  but i persist. i'd like to get halfway through and switch the main color to teal? or a lighter shade of green maybe?  what do ya think...and continue with the blues for alternate stripes.  stash busting here remember?

can you believe it is almost the end of january?  jeez where did the time go.  i started my asymmetrical cabled cardi last night as promised and although the pattern promised to confuse the hell out of me, i find that if i have faith and just cast on it all comes together for me and it has.  i have finished one repeat of the cable pattern and so far the yarn is nice and soft to the touch but i fear it will not be so soft on my neck and this pattern has a high neck so i may have issues.  i may have to shop for a nice light weight turtle neck to wear with this.  the yarn is a black base with eggplant flecks in it and appears to be eggplant more so than black but it will be interesting to see what it looks like when i have knit more of it.  i hope to wear it with jeans mostly but to be able to wear it with black would be a bonus.

 so far this year i have not purchased any more yarn as i resolved i would not do until i ran out.  i have also not purchased any new shoes as i resolved i would not but i had a major blow out in my beloved colombia boots...the rubber has cracked, large chunks of it have fallen out and although i persist in wearing them anyway i lose more every time i do so they will not walk with me into my golden years as i had hoped and expected of them.  i am shopping for new snow boots.  i know...i know...but maybe i can find some on a really good sale...i haven't yet but maybe i will or better yet these will take me to spring and i can buy a pair next january on sale!!!  i'll get back to you.  if i do buy a pair of snow boots i will be expected to buy the guy a new pair of shoes as a part of our wager.  he will insist on it and he reminds me  often.  some have said that one pair for him is a small price to pay for an entire year of shoes for me and i know that it is a small price to pay but i am really trying here to cut back on my shoe consumption and the fact is i think i can live without a new pair of shoes for 11 more months.  i got no snow days this week...none...that is a major bummer. i am behind on my knitting as a result but i am getting caught up in my work so i suppose it's all ok in the end. my knee and my shin have big bruises on them, my back hurt for a day or two, i lost my house and my car keys this morning but found them again this evening and i have no new incidents of falling to report but still i have not had a good day.   after i discovered i lost my keys this morning i also became aware that i have an evil twin and she  possessed me throughout the day today. i am hoping a glass of red wine will send her on her way because she is one ugly mean son of a thing let me tell you. seems i got rid of the hot flashes and have replaced them with some sort of mental illness. hormones...you gotta love them huh?  off to drink wine and knit until i make a mistake...ha just kidding.  later...love   g 

batten down the hatches...

we're in for a blow.  seems the cold weather that moved in yesterday and is here today  is here to stay for a little while or at least for most of next week. some one said we were getting ice and sleet...we did not. someone said we were getting snow and lots of it this weekend...i for one am keeping my fingers crossed and praying to the snow godess that we do. snow...inches and inches would be nice. this is perfect weather for knitting or i should say perfect weather for wearing knitted things. now that the cold is here i have so many  knittings that i wish were finished rather than just an idea .  i am hoping to finish up the second of the first pair of fetchings this weekend.  i am hoping to get some pics of the recipients of these knittings wearing them...in the snow maybe???

i have discovered an untapped source of tweedy wool in my stash that was originally meant for a vest and is now destined to become a cowl, a hat and another pair of fingerless gloves.  i also happened upon some lovely noro boucle which may also find itself becoming a cowl or leg warmers.  mom wants socks and well i have a whole lot to do so i should be off doing it but i thought i'd say hi first.  work is work.  every one there is having fits because as public employees we have been asked to make a financial disclosure and no one wants to...me included.  our busy season at work is usually november thru december but this year it was august...and it continues...and promises to be busier than even november and december and to top it all off we are losing people right and left and work is stacking up and after only two days back i am just about as stressed and crazed as i was before i left for my self imposed christmas break.   my progress at keeping my sanity at work is slow...in the past four days i have been late for work one day, i took a short lunch three of those days and i had one day of taking not taking a break all day...that resolution will be hard to keep  but i did take my knitting to work and i did manage to take a break today and knit three or four rows...or was that yesterday?  i also had a long convo with a fellow worker bee and fellow knitter and we came to the decision that sheepskin or fleece lined boots were ok to wear for work...i could become really lazy about my clothing habits if that is the case.  tomorrow is an official "it's ok to wear your steelers sweatshirt to work day" so i may test the theory...i don't have a steeler sweatshirt nor would i want one but i do have an american eagle hoody i could throw on with a pair of sheepskin slippers errr boots.  this is the 8th day of january and as i resolved  i haven't bought another pair of shoes this year so...that resolution is going well...so far. the year is young but i have resolve.  the guy is betting i won't last and if i do he owes me a new pair of shoes...in december..of 2009!   if i don't last i owe him a pair!  wish me luck...send me some good abstaining vibes...come on baby moma needs a new pair of shoes in december...of 2009!!!  later...love   g
