true to my word...

i predicted that i would not be able to keep up with daily self portraits.  once in a while will have to do...for now. this summer is way busier than i thought it would be. the boat is in the water and lots of fun is being had there. me and the river go way back starting from wading and swimming to rock climbing to kayaking to boating and now tubing.  next up is knee boarding and if i am really brave i may trying water skiing. hmmm.  today was a monday that dragged on endlessly while i suffered from body aches and pains and an ache from my shoulders to my skull...tubing took a larger toll than i ever expected and i have discovered i am way too old to keep up with the youngladygrandaughter when it comes to such things.  in spite of my aches and pains  i still had plenty to do when i got home from work.  i haven't addressed this issue as much on gaysknits as i have on my facebook page where it gets daily mention but i work for the state and in pennyslvania we have no budget that has been approved by the legislators for this fiscal year.  as a result we employees are not getting paid until a budget is approved. mind you i am not working for free exactly because i will get paid at some point when the budget is passed but until it is i will receive no compensation for the work i am still required to do every day, every week, every month that this goes on. our credit unions and some banks are offering budget impasse loans but the credit union i belong to is offering only a limited amount per pay date and that amount is substantially less than the amount of my pay.  i will cope. i will cut back. i will make due but i will not do so without grudge. tomorrow our union is having statewide breakouts during our lunch halfhour and we will be wearing the colors of our union and carrying signs and protesting the legislators refusal to approve a budget, hire enough staff to do the job, cut back on government waste and you know...give us a pay check for an honest days work so we don't have to beg, borrow and feel stressed out  and vulnerable.

tonight i made signs and sewed letters on a t shirt to wear tomorrow. another day i will tell you about our fun day on the river tubing accompanied by plenty of pics but for now i need some sleep and a muscle relaxer but this will  have to do!   later...love   g

it's a good thing that better judgement...

took over or i'd be wearing pink any warhol glasses today.  i swear i like the weirdest frames. seriously if they would have been white or even black i'd have gone for it but pink...as in pepto bismol pink???  even i had the good judgement to go for something a little more uh normal than that...i don't know though if money were no object i'd be tempted to get them too because i thought they were so cool...so andy warhol cool but just not for my one and only pair of glasses...as if huh?  as it was i took home two new pair from the eyeglasses store today. all i went in to do was to get an adjustment on my sunglasses but my insurance will pay  some towards a pair of glasses  this year and i have been given an updated rx for new lenses and  they had a coupon and you know how i can't resist a coupon...by the time i add thin lenses and transitions and progressives and hi density lenses the price goes up and up to where it is ridiculous so when the eyeglasses store is offering lenses for half off i jump at the chance.  if the truth be told it is the only time i ever buy glasses anymore.

 

anyway red is the new color for eyeglasses for me, the last few times i've tried them on it has been all red all the time so like i've said before red goes with everything as far as i'm concerned.  my sunglasses got a tightening up so i won't lose them while tubing in the river but they are shot from swimming in chlorine and the tint is coming all undone so i got a new pair today for not swimimming and boating in...if i do lose them i won't be all broken up about it!  i'm off to buy flippers now and the guys wants water shoes and hopefully i'll be on the river tomorrow floating swimming falling jumping and hopefully having a good ol time!  later...love   g

spc featuring the 7 deadly sins...

this month the self portrait challenge is focused on the seven deadly sins. my choice of sins for the week is wrath.  for a change of pace and a bit of new focus i decided to start participating in spc once again.  as you can imagine i groaned and grimaced and said why why why???  last month it was shoes i can relate to that. i can have fun with that but the seven deadly sins? wtf? it seems i can have some fun with this too. without going into a philosphical discussion of sin which i could do...you know i could...others have summed it up better than i could so i'll leave you with this. according to the history channel:  Italian writer Dante placed those that committed the sin of anger in the "Fourth Circle of Hell," tearing each other limb from limb for eternity. 

come on...you  know you'd love to or you have wanted to do it...at least one time huh? me i have an axe to grind!!!  see more depictions of the  seven  here on flickr. later...love g
